The building of Kazakhstan-British Technical University is located in the historical heart of Almaty. The main facade faces Astana Square. The walls of the building are faced with noble granite and marble, and majestic columns rise above the wide steps leading to massive solid wood doors, inviting you to enter the world of knowledge and new discoveries.

The design of the building was approved in 1938, and construction began in 1951 and was completed in 1957. Later, in 1972, two side wings were added to the building (from the side of Ablai Khan St. and Panfilov St.). The former government building now houses one of the most prestigious universities in Kazakhstan, KBTU.

KBTU courtyards are quiet and cozy spaces where students can relax and discuss academic issues. In one of them, you will find a traditional Japanese garden designed in accordance with the canons of Zen philosophy, which promotes relaxation and concentration even during the most stressful exam periods. In another courtyard, there is a time capsule laid by KBTU students and teachers in 2021 in honor of the university's 20th anniversary. The capsule will be opened 20 years later, in 2041, symbolizing the connection between generations and preserving important moments for the future.

The KBTU Independence Hall was named in honor of the historical events that took place within its walls. It was here on October 25, 1990 that the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Kazakh SSR was adopted, which marked the beginning of the political and legal independence of the country. The idea of establishing the Kazakhstan-British Technical University (KBTU) was born in the course of diplomatic initiatives between Kazakhstan and Great Britain. On the British side, the British Embassy in Kazakhstan and the British Council became partners of the university, which strengthened the link between the two countries and gave students the opportunity to receive quality international education.

KBTU was officially established by the Decree of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated August 3, 2001 № 1027, with the aim of creating a unique educational space that combines advanced technologies and experience of the two countries.

The transfer of the building on Tole bi street 59 to the University took place by the decree of the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, which emphasized the importance of this project for the development of technical sciences in the country.

The building has become not only a home for knowledge, but also a symbol of a new era of cooperation and the pursuit of innovation.
